County government of Nairobi will on Wednesday start fumigating the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and its surroundings as part of measures to contain spread of the coronavirus. So far the country has reported four positive cases and those patients are quarantined.
Nairobi County Health Deputy Director Wilson Langat said that fumigators will be mounted on vehicles within the city centre and the exercise also targets to sanitize street families.
“The vehicles will be moving around and disinfect locations within the CBD. We have requested the Ministry of Health to provide the necessary equipment to carry out the exercise,” said Mr Langat.

He added that street families are also part of them and the exercise so the county government shall come in and sanitize those they find.
This comes barely a week after the National Government carried out a similar exercise in Rongai last saturday after it was reported that the first positive case was a woman who resided in the area.
County government of Nairobi also said that it aims to train at least 3,500 health workers to handle patients with suspected cases of Covid-19 by Friday. Health Executive Hitan Majevdia said more than 250 health workers from the county’s four major hospitals have been trained.
Up to 80 such officers were trained in Mbagathi Hospital, 112 at Mama Lucy Hospital, 60 in Pumwani Maternity Hospital and 38 at Mutuini Hospital. Mjevda also added that some 100 health workers on tuesday, 50 were trained at Pumwani and another 50 at STC clinic.
“We expect to train 3, 000 health workers across Nairobi by Wednesday as those who ave been trained are expected to train other health officers,” said Mr Majevdia.
He urged the residents of Nairobi to access county services online where necessary to avoid crowding at City Hall.
Mbagathi Hospital chairman George Osewe on his part called on the county and media to sensitise the public as he stated that normalcy has resumed at Mbagathi Hospital after nurses called of their go-slow.
Nurses at the facility went on a go-slow on Monday to protest what they termed as negligence and lack of proper training in handling of coronavirus cases by the state.
The strikes were called off after a consultative meeting between the hospital management and Kenyatta National Hospital.
