Coronavirus hits Kericho?
Corona Virus Strain

Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony has confirmed a suspected case of Coronavirus infection in his county.

Governor Chepkwony reported that a 47-year-old, Indian man who displayed suspected symptoms of the deadly infection had been put in isolation at Londiani Sub-county Hospital.

The governor further stated that samples had been collected from the man to be tested in Nairobi before he is confirmed to have the disease.

The man is said to have complained of headaches and joint pains on Saturday which prompted his wife to report to the hospital where the symptoms were found to be similar to those experienced with coronavirus.

He is a cleric who recently traveled to Mombasa County and returned to Kericho.

The latest brief from the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe confirmed that there are only three confirmed infections of the virus in the country.

Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi on Tuesday confirmed that only two laboratories in the country are able to test for Coronavirus.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Dr Mwangangi explained that the reagent used to carry out the test is in short supply around the world, therefore, only the Kemri lab and the National Reference Lab were certified to conduct the test.

She added that measures are in place to have two more labs certified to conduct the test urging members of the public not to fall prey to advertisements by entities that claim to do the test.
