Coronavirus: Will Kenya suspend flight to Rome?

Kenya is now considering to suspend flights between Nairobi and Rome just one day after flights between Nairobi and northern Italy regions were suspended.  Kenya suspended flights from the cities of Milan and Verona.

Transport CS James Macharia told the joint National Assembly and Senate committee on Health that  Kenya had also cancelled flights between Nairobi and Iran.

“We do not have direct flights to and from Iran but we are seriously monitoring Kenya Airways flights to Rome and Milan because Italy has been hit hard by the virus in Verona,” Macharia told the joint committee.

Both Italy and Iran have reported the highest number of deaths from the coronavirus outbreak outside of China which is the epicenter of the killer virus. Italy has reported 79 deaths and Iran 54 deaths as of Tuesday.

Italy is now considering closing all its schools and universities up to mid-March to manage the spread of the coronavirus.

Interior PS Karanja Kibicho who also appeared alongside Macharia  before the joint committee on health reported that the Kenyan government had not traced the 239 Chinese nationals who arrived in the country last week from China.
