A police officer in Kiambu County has died of Covid-19 and two others have tested positive with six more are in isolation with at least 36 remandees also in placed under quarantine.
“Currently, the situation is bad,” Kiambu police commander Ali Nuno said.
Many police stations within Kiambu County are overwhelmed by the growing numbers in cells and some should be remand prison.
“We do not have anywhere to take people when we arrest them. Some of the people in our custody are Covid-19 positive,” Nuno said.
He further disclosed that two officers are admitted at Tigoni Covid-1centre while the 36 remandees are being quarantined at Thika Medical Centre.
Nuno who was disguised as a mechanic witnessed the extent to which bars and restaurants in the county are violating the 9pm to 4am Covid-19 curfew. He bursted many Kiambu residents without face masks and not observing social distancing rule.
“I want elders in Kiambu county to understand clearly that if we continue with the trend, things will get out of hand. Please, let’s all come on board and stop taking things lightly,” he added.
Nuno also urged Governor James Nyoro to revoke the licences of bars and social joints that violate curfew and other Covid-19 containment measures.
Kiambu has witnessed a surge in numbers of new infections lately, a trend they blame on the proximity with Nairobi which is the epicentre of the pandemic in Kenya.
Other counties neighboring Nairobi like Machakos and Kajiado have also recorded a surge in number of cases.
On July 22 Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman noted Mombasa, which is the worst hit after Nairobi is now recording a drop in the number of cases.
