COVID-19: Confirmed cases hit 6,070 after 259 more people test positive

Kenya’s total Covid-19 cases have risen to 6,070 after 259 more individuals tested positive in the last 24 hours.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 press briefing on Saturday, June 27, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi stated that Nairobi county led with the highest number of cases.

2,718 samples had been tested in the same period of time bringing the cumulative samples tested so far to 165,196.

35 patients were also discharged in the last 24 hours, bring the total recovered patients tally to 1,971.

Two more patients died of the virus bringing the total fatalities to 143.

“All the positive cases are Kenyans, except three (3) who are foreigners, with 159 being males and 100 females. The youngest is an 8-month-old infant and the oldest is 92 years,” the CAS revealed.

The 259 positive cases were distributed across the counties as follows, Nairobi, 127 cases, Mombasa, 39, Kiambu, 22, Machakos, 16, Busia 11, Makueni, (9), Nakuru, (9), Uasin Gishu, (9), Kilifi, (5), Kajiado, (3), Kisumu, (2), Lamu, (2) Garissa (2), Marsabit, (2), & Kwale, (1) case.

CAS Mwangangi highlighted that Lamu was the latest county to report a positive case, bringing the total number of counties with Covid-19 cases to 41.

On a positive note, the Health CAS announced that the ministry was now operating at optimum capacity in the war against the coronavirus.

“We are sufficiently ready in treating and managing Covid-19,” she asserted.
