COVID- 19: Eight more confirmed as the numbers shoot to 50

Health Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has announced eight more positive cases of coronavirus pushing Kenya’s total number to 50.

Kagwe also revealed that Nairobi is leading with 34 confirmed Covid-19 cases followed by Kilifi (6), Mombasa (3), Kitui, Kajiado and Kwale, each with one confimed case as the efforts to trace the contracts continue.

Of the 50 cases, 26 are male and 24 are female.

“Of the 2,050 people in mandatory quarantine, we have in the last 24 hours tested 172 samples, 84 samples have so far been analyzed and have received confirmation of 1 person who has tested positive for coronavirus,” he said.

CS Kagwe also urged Nairobi residents to stop travelling upcountry during this period since a majority of the elderly people live there. COVID-19 has majorly claimed the lives of the elderly people since its outbreak last december in Wuhan, China.

The deadly virus has infected more than 720,000 people across the world and claimed over 34,000 lives with one reported death in Kenya.

The state announced on Sunday that close to 1,000 medics will be hired in the next week to handle the fast rising numbers of COVID -19 infection.

The medics will include clinical officers, nurses, lab technologists and doctors among other experts to manage the spread.
