Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Sunday, June 7, announced that 167 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 over the preceding 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 2,767.
Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, the CAS stated that 2,833 samples had been tested during the period.
He further revealed that of the new cases, 125 were male and 42 female, with the youngest a 11-months.
46 Covid-19 patients were discharged over the same period after recovering from the coronavirus, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 752.
Unfortunately, one patient succumbed to the disease bringing the total fatalities to 84.
The numbers, he stated, resulted from the country’s increased targeted testing.
The CS further sounded a warning on people selling alcohol threatening to revoke their licenses permanently and urged Kenyans to continue working from home despite the curfew adjustments allowing for a full business day.
“This is done on understanding that Kenyans are aware and intend on following these rules. The more we open up, the more responsibility is given to Kenyans themselves.
“It is close to 90 days since the first infection and we are at abetter understanding of those rules,” stated the CS praising chiefs, sub-chiefs and Nyumba Kumi heads of being alert.
He further urged the counties to ensure that the minimum 300 beds per county is achieved as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his Saturday, June 6, address.
