Covid: Kenya’s positivity rate at 3.6pc as 66 test positive – KBC

66 people have tested positive for Covid-19, from a sample size of 1,833 tested in the last 24 hours, pushing total confirmed positive cases in the country to 163,620.

Kenya’s positivity rate is at 3.6% while cumulative tests so far conducted stand at 1,721,122.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, out of the cases 65 are Kenyans while one is a foreigner.

45 are males and 21 are females with the youngest being a six-year old-child while the oldest is 81 years.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (3), 10-19 years (2), 20-29 years (11), 30-39 years (14), 40-49 years (9), 50-59 years (9), 60 and above (18).

12 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours bringing cumulative fatalities to 2,907.

One occurred on diverse dates within the last one month and 11 are late deaths reports after conducting facility record audits.

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (54), 10-19 years (20), 20 29 (103), 30-39 years (243), 40-49 years (375), 50-59 years (622), 60 years and above (1,490).

Total recoveries now stand at 112,298 after a total of 1,737 patients recovered from the disease, 1,580 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care, while 157 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Of the total recoveries, 82,138 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 30,790 are from various health facilities.

A total of 1,122 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,783 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

134 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 85 on supplemental oxygen. 26 patients are under observation.

Another 89 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 83 of them in general wards and 6 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Vaccination

As of Monday, a total of 917,068 persons have so far been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 280,876 are aged 58 years and above, Health workers, 160,947, Teachers 143,684, Security Officers 77,417 while 254,144 are in the others category.

In terms of County Distribution, the number of vaccinated persons are as follows; Nairobi 277,321, Nyamira 9,212, Nakuru 63,191, Busia 9,181, Kiambu 45,599, Siaya 9,020, Uasin Gishu 42,415, Bomet 8,107, Nyeri 34,759, Baringo 7,425, Meru 25,169, Tharaka Nithi 7,118, Mombasa 25,045, Elgeyo Marakwet 7,018, Murang’a 25,035, Makueni 6,421.

Kisumu 24,359, Narok 6,053, Kajiado 22,468, Kilifi 5,912, Kakamega 22,168, Taita Taveta 4,750, Nyandarua 20,258, Turkana 3,719, Machakos 19,322, West Pokot 3,591, Trans Nzoia 18,282, Kwale 3,417, Bungoma 16,684, Samburu 3,198, Embu 16,681, Mandera 2,403, Laikipia 16,552, Garissa 2,186, Nandi 15,242, Wajir 2,101, Kirinyaga 15,196, Isiolo 1,636, Kitui 12,251.

Tana River 842, Homa Bay 12,166, Lamu 728, Kericho 11,742, Marsabit 668, Vihiga 11,217, Kisii 9,967, Migori 9,273. The Top five counties in terms of vaccination are; Nairobi with 277,321 persons vaccinated, Nakuru 63,191, Kiambu 45,599, Uasin Gishu 42,415 and Nyeri with 34,759 Persons vaccinated.

Counties with the least vaccination rate are; Wajir with 2,101 (0.2%) persons vaccinated, Isiolo 1,636 (0.2%), Tana River 842 (0.1%), Lamu 728 (0.1%) and Marsabit with 668 (0.1%) persons vaccinated.

In the wake of emerging questions over possible adverse effects following immunization, those who have been vaccinated are encouraged to report any side effects.
