CS Kiunjuri fired as Uhuru Kenyatta reshuffles his cabinet

Mwangi Kiunjuri has been dropped as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary.

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the new raft of changes on Tuesday morning.

Critics said Kiunjuri had been courting his sacking after recent pronouncements against the much-hyped Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

“He (Kiunjuri) keeps talking about 2022 which the President, who is his boss, has warned about. He is talking of a government that will be created as though he does not believe in the current one in which he serves.

“He is basically preparing ground for crying foul when he is finally sacked,” Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu told the People Daily.

On Tuesday, the Head of State also picked Mutahi Kagwe as the new Health CS while Betty Maina takes over the Industrialisation docket.

Rachel Omamo has been reassigned to Foreign Affairs while Sicily Kariuki will now head the Water ministry.

Peter Munya is the new Agriculture CS while Monica Juma heads to the Defense docket.

Simon Chelugui moves to the Labour Ministry as Ukur Yatani officially becomes Finance CS.

Cabinet Secretaries who have retained their positions include Dr. Fred Matiang’i (Interior), Adan Mohammed (East African Community and Northern Corridor Development), Amina Mohammed (Sports, Culture and Heritage), Charles Keter (Energy), Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution), James Macharia (Transport), Joe Mucheru (ICT), Najib Balala (Tourism), Prof. George Magoha (Education), Farida Karoney (Lands), Keriako Tobiko (Environment), John Munyes (Petroleum and Mining), and Margaret Kobia (Public Service).
