Tourism Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano said the Easter holiday is the perfect time for local tourists to travel and explore the rich diversity of their country.
Miano, who took to her official X (formerly Twitter) account, passionately appealed and encouraged citizens to become ambassadors for Kenya’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
“This Easter, I urge all Kenyans to take time to visit the wonderful destinations our country has to offer. From the breathtaking landscapes of the Rift Valley to the white sandy beaches of the Coast, from the cultural richness of Western Kenya to the wildlife in our national parks — there is something for everyone,” said Miano.
Which destinations can Kenyans visit
Miano pointed out several affordable and family-friendly destinations suitable for Easter getaways.
These include Naivasha, Nanyuki, Kakamega Forest, Amboseli, Diani, Kisumu, and the Nairobi National Park.
She said the Ministry is also collaborating with various stakeholders to provide travel packages and promote safe, sustainable tourism.
How local tourism can improve economy
CS Miano emphasised the need for domestic travel as a chance not only for relaxation and discovery but also a vital contribution to the economy.
The CS noted that through local tourism, the sector, which is still recovering from the COVID-19 shockwaves, can be boosted.
She said increased local travel can provide the much-needed support for small businesses, tour operators, and hospitality providers across the country.
The Cabinet Secretary also highlighted the Ministry’s recently launched digital campaign, aimed at promoting local destinations and redefining Kenya’s tourism identity beyond the traditional safari experience.
The campaign, which involves local content creators and social media influencers, is showcasing hidden gems and inspiring Kenyans to rediscover their own backyard.
“This Easter season is the perfect time for families, friends, and individuals to travel, share their experiences online, and support our local tourism industry. You don’t need to travel far or spend a lot to enjoy what Kenya has to offer,” she said.
Miano’s message comes as part of a broader strategy to encourage year-round domestic tourism and reduce overreliance on international arrivals.
The CS noted that Kenyan local tourists play a crucial role in keeping the tourism industry vibrant and resilient.
