Cabinet Secretary for Sports Dr Amina Mohamed on Tuesday paid a visit to the Team Kenya training bubble camp at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani ahead of the Olympic games earmarked for July this year.
The CS noted she was impressed with the progress in terms of the preparations for the global sporting extravaganza, and emphasized her ministry’s commitment to ensuring the interests of athletes are given prime priority.
“The Ministry of Sports prioritizes the welfare of players’ right from their preparations at home and their eventual participation in the games.
“The Government has ensured that National team athletes have received the second does of the Covid-19 vaccination to safeguard them against the disease as they prepare for the Summer games ” she disclosed.

Olympics Kenya is working in partnership with the government in boosting the preparations of Team Kenya with the State funding both the Olympics and Paralympics.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the bubble camp was set up at Kasarani where currently, the Kenya rugby sevens men’s team Shujaa, the rugby sevens women’s team Lionesses, the volleyball team Malkia Strikers, the boxers ‘Hit Squad’ and taekwondo athletes are camping.
“As you know we are a sporting nation and therefore we must continue to prepare as if we are going to win all the medals that we need to win. All is in place to ensure that team Kenya travels to Tokyo in a wonderful environment but also having been well prepared for the games,” Amina added.
The president of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics organising committee, Seiko Hashimoto, has said the Games will go ahead as planned, soon after the Japan’s most senior medical adviser said holding the event under current coronavirus conditions was “not normal”.
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) is expecting to send a record 100 athletes to this year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Kenya took a record 89 athletes in seven sports to the Rio 2016 Games, winning their best medal haul to date with six gold, six silver and one bronze medal.
