This morning, Directorate of Criminal Investigations  (DCI) arrested Dr Godwin Maxwell Otieno Agutu for abduction and impersonation.

“THREE suspects who abducted the Director of Hi-tech Enterprise while personating  EACC and KRA officers before demanding for a Kshs. Two Million bribe to stop pursuing an alleged tax evasion case involving the victim are in our custody…upon interrogations, the first suspect alleged to be running an NGO namely Network Action Against Corruption (NAAC),” DCI wrote in part.

Dr Agutu shot to fame when he was the star interviewee on NTV’s exposé on the theft of donations meant to fight the covid-19 pandemic.

Last week, businessman Richard Ngatia, the owner of Megascope who was also exposed in the #Covid19Millionaires scandal together with a few others sued Nation Media Group (NMG). High Court directed Nation Media Group (NMG) to pull down ‘COVID-19 millionaires’ story from their social media platforms pending the hearing of libel case by Megascope Ltd against them.

Denis Okari, the journalist who investigated, compiled and aired the story went into hiding.

DCI’s posts on the arrest of Dr Godwin Agutu

THREE suspects who abducted the Director of Hi-tech Enterprise while personating  EACC and KRA officers before demanding for a Kshs. Two Million bribe to stop pursuing an alleged tax evasion case involving the victim are in our custody. Using two Prados Reg. Nos. GKB 070B & KCY 280Q, the three suspects; Godwins Otieno Agutu, Alex Mutua Mutuku & Ken Gichovi Kimathi alongside three others who are still at large stormed the victim’s offices within Nairobi on 26th Sept 2020, after which they took his laptop & left. The suspects appeared again on 29th Sept 2020 demanding the Ksh. 2 Million bribe, and when the victim could not raise the amount, they forced him into the GKB vehicle and drove off to Lutheran Hse along Nyerere road. The victim was forced to contact his family members to get the amount, but only managed to raise Ksh. 500,000 where the suspects escorted him to his house at Westlands in Nairobi and took the cash. Investigations were launched by DCI Detectives where the three suspects were nabbed at the said Lutheran House, further establishing that the registration number GKB 070B belonged to a Land Rover Discovery attached to the Judiciary. Upon interrogations, the first suspect alleged to be running an NGO namely Network Action Against Corruption (NAAC), and that he was working jointly with the suspects at large who are allegedly #KRA officers namely; Houdouvia Njoroge, Harrison Ochar and Brian Kimemia. Whereas the arrested suspects were arraigned today with detectives seeking five days custodial orders but were granted one day to complete investigations, those at large are being pursued with charges of Abduction and Demanding with Menaces being preferred.
