CID officer draws gun on Turkana Senator in ugly confrontation over disputed land

A Sub County Criminal Investigations Officer in Loima, Turkana reportedly drew his gun on area Senator Malachy Ekal after the two engaged in an ugly confrontation over land.

Reports indicate that on Tuesday, May 19, Ekal stormed into SCCIO Davis Ondimo’s office demanding answers on a land dispute.

In retaliation, the detective drew his weapon and ordered the Senator to leave his office as he proceeded to undergo an X-ray test in the hospital to ascertain the level of harm.

Ekal had lodged a complaint at Lodwar Police Station Monday, May 18, and later on recorded a statement at County Criminal Investigations Office on Tuesday, May 19.

The land feud pits residents against one family over the ownership of a 286-hectare land parcel.

This dispute brings to light the confrontation between politicians with law enforcers who severally clash over policies or personal feuds.

On Sunday, May 17, Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip’s father was allegedly shot at by the police for not wearing a face mask, a report which police later refuted.

In an interview with Daily Nation on Tuesday, May 19, Laikipia County Police Commander Maxwell Nyaema disclosed that the father, David Kiwaka, had reportedly triggered the police to shoot him.

He explained that the officers were on an assignment to arrest a suspect accused of assaulting his wife and that Kiwaka was part of a group that allegedly attempted to protect the man.

The matter got out of hand when Kiwaka reportedly stabbed one of the officers and was aiming at the next officer when he was shot.

“When he attempted to stab another officer, he was shot on the right leg,” stated the commander
