DCI detectives arrest colleagues who robbed crime suspects

Hunter became the hunted on Monday, August 3 after three Special Service Unit (SSU) detectives were arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The three were linked to a robbery with violence incident that occurred at Baraka Gas Company in Matuu, Machakos County.

The incident took place on the night of Friday, July 31 with DCI and SSU officials pouncing on the rogue officials on Monday.

The trio conducted a sting operation following a tip that the company was illegally and unprocedurally refilling cylinders from various gas companies behind locked doors after curfew hours.

The three officers who allegedly organized and executed a raid on the facility were identified as William Mutua, Henry Maitai and Jonathan Sankale.

The company’s surveillance car, a Toyota Probox was intercepted by the three officers with the manager of the company on board.

They gained access to the facility where they confiscated mobile phones of all workers moments before the business owner called the manager seeking to talk to the officers.

Cash amounting to Ksh. 370,000 was transferred to various accounts via mobile money which was later traced back to the three officers.

The trio have since been disarmed and placed in police custody as DCI continue with further investigations on the case.

Members of the public, however, wanted a mug shot of the three detectives as is the norm when suspects are arrested.

DCI has recently stepped up their operations with The Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) detectives on Monday, August 3, apprehended a 34-year old woman believed to be a terror suspect.
