The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released images of some suspects connected to the torching of a Mazda CX-5 along Thika Road during Monday’s nationwide protests over the rise of fuel prices.
The suspects were identified in viral videos showing a group of demonstrators surrounding the vehicle before setting it on fire near Githurai, as protests descended into chaos in parts of Nairobi and its environs.

“Detectives have commenced investigations and are pursuing all persons involved in the arson attack,” the DCI said in a statement.
The agency appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying the suspects through anonymous reporting channels such as the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline and WhatsApp platform.
It happened during a nationwide strike called by matatu operators, boda boda riders and other transport stakeholders protesting the recent fuel price hike the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced.
