Deputy President
William Ruto on Friday, May 7, 2021 held a meeting with his allies hours after
Members of Parliament (MPs) passed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill.
The meeting which
took place at Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika’s Karen home in Nairobi was chaired
by DP Ruto and attended by over 50 politicians and experts from different
sectors of the economy.
In his statement
shortly after the meeting, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria
stated that they met to discuss the country’s economic revival plan.
“I was the
moderator at the meeting where we re-validated the Bottom-Up Economic Model
after the Maasai Mara retreat,” Kuria stated.
During their three-day retreat at Maasai Mara, Ruto and his tangatanga brigade reportedly discussed a new economic model termed as Bottom-Up Economic model.
DP Ruto also broke his silence on the BBI vote during the meeting saying that “In line with democracy, the National assembly voted on the Constitution Amendment Bill and so will the Senate. When the people’s turn comes, they too will vote and we will march on. We should respect everyone’s decision & accept democratic outcomes. All views make us stronger together.”
Reports also revealed that Ruto also strategised his plans after MPs passed the bill.
This comes after the
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi announced that 235 MPs out of 320 voted
for the bill, 83 against while two abstained.
Some of Ruto’s close
confidants including; MPs Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) and Feisal Badder
(Msambweni) voted for the bill.
“What’s the
difference with this (BBI) which takes funds to the grassroots level from MCAs
to the top, and allocates five new constituencies for Nakuru county
government? I am still the chief campaigner of DP William Ruto. Have you
seen the DP himself say no to the BBI bill?” Ngunjiri stated.
