Former Nairobi County Assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi has advised Nairobi Deputy governor Anne Kananu to ask for wisdom as she is set to be sworn in as Nairobi Governor.
Elachi who is the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) at the Ministry of Public Service and Gender added that dismantling the revenue collection team, where most corruption is done, is not always easy.
“It’s not easy, I want to tell Ann Kananu. Congratulations! Yes, you will be sworn in but, my dear sister, ask God to give you wisdom and knowledge. Ask for wisdom. That is what I can tell her. It is very easy to find yourself in a mess if you are not careful because the markets have issues, the parkings have issues, the loading zones. When you go to the 85 wards you will find that you can collect revenue if you are with a good team, 50-80 billion shillings. But to dismantle this team also is not a joke, if you come in and you want so-and-so to leave because you have been wanting them to, it will not work. It will become messy and they are the ones who will start working to see that you fail,” said Elachi whose tenure as speaker was prematurely ended by the internal wrangles at the Assembly.
Kananu is set to be sworn in as Governor after the case filed by Mike Sonko against the move was thrown out.
The court told the ousted governor that it ‘lacked jurisdiction to entertain it (the case)’.
Sonko responded to the development on his Twitter and Facebook pages.
“Fellow Kenyans, I concede defeat by accepting the Supreme court’s verdict this afternoon. God’s timing is the best and a time will come when he’ll give me another chance to serve Kenyans in any capacity. I’m forever grateful for the opportunity I had working for you, I will continue doing so. For now we leave everything to God. We live to fight another day, however, alluta continua as life must go on. TWENDENI TUKAPIGE SHEREHE SASA,” Mike Sonko wrote.
