DP Ruto allies blocked from holding anti-BBI meeting in Kakamega

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies were blocked by police from holding a parallel meeting to a Building Bridges Initiative meeting that was being held in Mumias, Kakamega County.

The anti-BBI meeting was to be held at Nabongo grounds in Mumias but were denied access by police who blocked off the area. The BBI meeting, on the other hand, was held at Bukhungu Stadium.

Among the key politicians in the Anti-BBI meeting were Matungu MP Justus Murunga, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Kiminini MP Didmus Barasa, Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, and former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.

Police lobbed teargas at the politicians at Ekero and Shibale when they tried to talk to their supporters. They condemned the police over the alleged disappearance of Mumias East Benjamin Washiali.

The politicians claimed that Washiali had been abducted hours before the rally. Khalwale said that he received information that the MP was arrested by officers in his residence at night.

After failed attempts to gather crowds at Ekero and Shibale market, the politicians decided to push their rally to next week. Officers lobbed more teargas through Shibale market forcing the leaders to run for their safety
