Deputy President William Ruto and Jubilee Party Candidate in the concluded Kibra by-election McDonald Mariga on Friday led a host of leaders at a thanksgiving meeting with their supporters.

McDonald Mariga welcomes DP William Ruto at Bomas of Kenya for a meeting with Kibra residents.

Mariga, who lost the mini polls, organized the meeting to appreciate his supporters for enabling him to come second in the hotly contested race.

The DP, who had vigorously campaigned for the Jubilee candidate, shared light moments with the residents as they enjoyed a meal.

The meeting was on Thursday announced that it will be held at the Bomas of Kenya.

The meeting comes weeks after the ODM party held its thanksgiving rally at DC grounds Kibra.

The Kibra MP Bernard Okoth organized the rally to thank his supporters for voting him in.

Okoth beat his rivals by garnering 59 per cent of the votes cast.

Mariga came distant second with 26 per cent while ANC’s Eliud Owalo garnered 13 per cent.

The campaigns gained ‘national status’ after heavy political heavyweights stormed Kibra to campaign for their candidates.

Pundits argued that the contest was a dress rehearsal for 2022 presidential elections after DP Ruto, Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi, potential presidential candidates, relentlessly locked horns in Kibra.

The Kibra seat fell vacant after the death of immediate MP Ken Okoth who succumbed to colorectal cancer in July.
