DP Ruto summons his Harambee House Annex office staff over Echesa’s Sh39 billion firearm fraud

Embattled Deputy President William Ruto has summoned his Harambee House Annex staff to a crisis meeting at his Karen residence as pressure mounts on him to resign over the KSh 39.5 billion scandal.

The meeting comes at a time when detectives combed at his office for the second day running in a bid to fish out evidence related to the multi-billion scam.

According to a report by the People Daily on Wednesday, February 19, the DP will meet the staff to discuss the issue that has threatened to end his career prematurely.

New details relating to the case have emerged with revelations indicating the suspects may have met in the Jubilee deputy party leader’s office on Monday, January 20, three weeks before they were nabbed.

The main suspect in the fraud Rashid Echesa, a former Sports CS and a school dropout who was sacked in March 2019, was arrested alongside his co-accused Daniel Otieno, Kennedy Mboya, and Clifford Okoth on Thursday, February 13.

The suspects spent were arraigned in court on Monday, Febtweeted.7, and charged with 12 counts relating to fraud.

The charges ranged from conspiracy to commit a felony to attempting to obtain KSh39.5 billion from a foreign businessman by pretending they would award him a tender to supply military equipment.

They were released on Sh1 million cash bail each.

Ruto had earlier distanced himself from the military tender scam saying the corruption case was a distraction by his political competitors.

“The desperation of my political competitors on their choreographed smear campaign against William Samoei Ruto is evident even for fools (whom we have a shortage for)to see. Just wait and see where this will end up,” he tweeted
