DP Ruto renames Daily Nation to ‘Ruto Daily’ over controversial Thursday’s headline

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday morning attacked the Daily Nation after its headline referred to Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen as a “Ruto Man”.

The Nation reported that Murkomen’s opposition to the surrender of the Nairobi County functions to the National government was part of the Ruto team to protect Governors who are close to them including Sonko.

Ruto, however, distanced himself from the headline saying Murkomen was a member of the Senate which he claimed was an independent institution with the legal mandate of over-sighting counties.

“The Senate is an independent institution with constitutional mandate to oversight counties. For the dailynation (or is it Rutodaily) to run its vicious, corruptly-paid tirade of imaginary fights as though the Senate works for/report to WsR is sure decline to abysmal gutter,” Ruto tweeted.

The response mirrored a similar statement issued by the Senate Majority Leader when he accused the Nation of being unfair to him by calling him a Ruto Man.

Murkomen stated that he was also not an employee of the Deputy President, calling on the newspaper to stop bringing him into their alleged fight with DP Ruto.

“Dear @dailynation I reject your silly characterization. I have a name. I have a job. I am NOT an employee of the Deputy President. I don’t agree with him on everything even though I respect him as my Deputy Party Leader. Don’t involve me in your vicious war with the DP,” tweeted Senator Murkomen.
