DP Ruto’s Office Was Used As Den For Echesa’s Fake Sh39b Firearm deal

DP Ruto’s Office Was Used As Den For Echesa’s Fake Sh39b Firearm deal

Former controversial Sports Cabinet Secretary(CS) Rashid Echesa was yesterday arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sleuths over a Sh39 billion fake military equipment tender deal which they say Dp Ruto’s office was used.

The fired CS was dragged to the CID headquarters after two gun dealers, an Egyptian and an American reported that the Ex-CS had charged and swindled them Sh11.5 million ($115,000) they had paid as ‘consultancy fees’ in the botched tender.

The two say Echesa had claimed his influence would help them pull strings faster and help them secure the multi-billion shilling military surveillance equipment, guns, and ammunition tender.

The former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader in Kakamega allegedly used Deputy President William Ruto’s office at Harambee House Annex Building for meetings with the foreigners to further exert his influence, he is also accused of using the signature of Defence CS Amb. Monica Juma to defraud the two individuals.

“He has even been hosting them in a government boardroom claiming he would help secure the said tender,” said Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti.

Police have confirmed they recovered documents bearing government letterheads from Echesa, investigations to verify their authenticity are underway.

Echesa was arrested alongside Daniel Otieno Omondi, Kennedy Oyoo and Clifford Okoth.
