Duale – Ruto’s 50 CAS Picks is Crucial

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has defended the nomination of 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries.

The nominees who now await parliamentary approval before formally taking up their jobs will gobble up over Sh500 million in salaries monthly.

Duale’s response came after Kenya Kwanza critics accused President Ruto of making a mockery of austerity measures by expanding the executive with a high number of CASs.

His predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta only had 23 CAS officers during his tenure.

In a statement, Duale told off the critics saying CAS officers will be a key pillar in the implementation of Kenya Kwanza’s revolutionary agenda.

Duale observed that CASs positions will act as the link between the executive and other state agencies in the execution of the bottom-up economic model.

“The auxiliary roles of the Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) are important in driving the Ministries’ goals and the Government’s Development Agenda.

“I thank President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for equipping our ministries with able and visionary Kenyans in the CAS appointees,”  he stated.

Thursday’s nominations have triggered a storm with the opposition accusing Ruto of abandoning his ‘no positions’ mantra during the campaigns.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo also lauded the President following the nominations, saying the nominees captured the face of Kenya.

“The nominees are illustrious Kenyans and dedicated public servants who have expressed unwavering support to the Government’s transformative agenda,” he stated.
