Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris says she received her first mobile phone from the late former President Daniel arap Moi.
Speaking on Saturday during the public viewing of Moi’s body at Parliament buildings, Passaris revealed her personal relationship with the late Head of State describing him as a pleasant man.
According to the Nairobi Woman Representative, it was back in 1997 when she met President Moi who awarded her a tender to supply campaign t-shirts and then directed a State House officer to give her a mobile phone to facilitate communication.
“I got my first mobile phone from him in 1997. In 1997 I was running a promotional company doing t-shirts and I got a tender to supply campaign t-shirts for the elections… It was a Motorola… really big. It looked like a walkie talkie and he said to Lukorio who worked at State House give her a mobile phone,” said Passaris.
She went further to reveal that after supplying the t-shirts, half of her money was delayed and that it was Moi who intervened and the amount, which she says was between Ksh.4 million to ksh.5 million, was released.
Passaris further disclosed that at that time she lost her pregnancy and the late president called her to express his condolence.
“I also lost my pregnancy during that time. He called me personally and said sorry. They had also held my money they didn’t pay me and he got to hear about it and he called me and got hold of Joshua Kulei and told him pay her,” added Passaris.
She further revealed that Moi personally invited her to his inauguration.
“He invited me for his inauguration and he asked me who I want to bring and I said my mother and he said fine give her an invitation. He was quite hands on, very pleasant person,” she added.
The Nairobi Woman Representative says she was sad that she could not keep in touch with the former President during his last days but she expressed that Moi was always in her prayers.
“I feel sad that I never got to see him in the recent years but I kept in touch with Gideon to always find out how he was doing. He was always in my prayers,” said Passaris.
