Ex-cop Njeri pleads not guilty in Lawyer Masaku murder charge

Police Constable Nancy Njeri has pleaded not guilty in a case where she is accused of killing lawyer Onesmus Masaku.

Njeri who was kicked from the police service due to the murder charge appeared before High Court Judge David Kenei on Tuesday morning.

Lawyer Masaku died at the Kenyatta National Hospital where he was receiving treatment after his hands were chopped on October 7, 2020 by former police constable.

Njeri was stationed at the Makueni Police Station in Wote when she committed the offence.

The two had a fight at the lawyer’s house before the incident occurred after which Masaku was rushed to the Makueni Hospital and later transferred to KNH when his situation worsened.

But the accused was later arrested and arraigned in court on October 9 where she was charged with causing grievous harm but her charges were later amended to murder after the advocate succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased is represented by a battery of lawyers including LSK President Nelson Havi, his deputy Caroline Kamende and LSK chairman South Eastern Justus Mutia are among others.
