A former police officer was shot dead when he was trying to cut down a metal signboard to sell as scrap metal in Gilgil.
Police IG Hillary Mutyambai said security officers in Gilgil shot dead Arnold Madete on Wednesday night.
“The ex-policeman had earlier been convicted of theft of scrap metals and is serving sentence under probation,” Mutyambai said.
He said a second suspect was arrested, crude weapons and motorcycle used to perpetuate the offence recovered.
The National Police Service officers are in pursuit of a third suspect who escaped during the incident.
This comes hours after the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Embakasi in Nairobi Simon Mutia Mwongela was Thursday arrested after he was involved in a fatal shooting incident.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) is said to have been engaged in an altercation with a night guard at a club and lodging prompting Mwongela to shoot.
Witnesses told police Mwongela arrived at the lodging at about 4 am and demanded the gate to be opened for him to get in sleep.
He had apparently been on duty overnight and wanted to go rest at the lodging.
