Details have emerged of a romantic affair between billionaire and Microsoft developer Bill Gates and his junior staff days after announcing their divorce with wife Melinda.
The affair led to the microsoft founder’s investigations in 2019 over an affair he had with an employee of the company over a year ago as reported by the Wall Street Journal(WSJ).
Reports from the same publication indicates that hat the board members of Microsoft Corp concluded that Gates ought to step down as director of the board paving way for investigations into the alleged sexual relationship he had with a former Microsoft engineer in 2000.
Further sources privy to the matter states the board decided to hire a law firm to investigate the claims after the female staffer wrote to the board stating to have had a sexual relationship with the billionaire which lasted years.
The journal reported that some of the micro-soft staff deemed the relationship between Gates and the staff toon inappropriate and not right to sit as a director until the conclusion of the investigations and decision on the same.
“Microsoft received a concern in the latter half of 2019 that Bill Gates sought to initiate an intimate relationship with a company employee in the year 2000,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.
“A committee of the Board reviewed the concern, aided by an outside law firm to conduct a thorough investigation. Throughout the investigation, Microsoft provided extensive support to the employee who raised the concern.” Microsoft said.
Gates then resigned as a director in 2019 paving way for the investigations, after which he announced time off to concentrate on his philanthropic works while maintaining his service as a technical adviser to Chief Executive Satya Nadella.
WSJ also revealed that members of the board became aware of the letter from the lady engineer in 2019 while demanding changes to her job while sharing details of her relationship with Bill.
The two recently announced their divorce amid reports that they could no longer grew together, without the proper explanation into the divorce.
