Fake police officer commits suicide in detention

Henry Wachira Njuguna is reported to have committed suicide in Rumuruti Police Station in Laikipia County after he was arrested while impersonating a police officer.

The man committed suicide using his jacket strap with police in the area left puzzled how he managed to sneak it inside the police cell.

Njuguna was arrested on Wednesday, May 6 by the local chief after residents blamed him for the increased robberies in the area.

Rumuruti Sub-county Police Commander Katombu Molu, Njuguna confirmed that the suspect was terrorising residents while pretending to be an officer of the law.

The incident is reported to have happened in the morning of Thursday, May 7 and he was found dead by a police officer who was patrolling the cell.

The man is said to have tied the jacket strap on the door grills and on his neck before abrupting ending his life.

Njuguna is accused of impersonating the police and had on several occasions robbed residents of the area who had filed a number of complaints.

The body of Njuguna was transferred to Nyahururu Level 5 Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem will be conducted.

Since the dusk to dawn curfew was imposed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, March, 27, cases of insecurity have been on the rise.

A number of businesses and homes have been robbed by criminals who have taken advantage of the situation.

The incident comes after a man sneaked back into a police station in Kenya to commit suicide hours after being set free on Tuesday, April 14.

Cases of civilians impersonating police have also been on the rise as a man in Mombasa was also arrested dressed in police uniform and revealed how his gang terrorises residents during the dusk-to-dawn curfew.
