The fate of the terror convicts who had escaped from Kamiti Maximum Prison has been revealed.
Speaking to the press on Thursday afternoon, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i announced that Musharaf Abdalla alias Alex Shikanda (34), Joseph Juma Odhiambo (30) and Mohammed Ali Abikar (35) will face fresh charges following their capture.
The escapees will be arraigned alongside other 9 prison officers who are suspected to have aided their escape.
Meanwhile, Kenyans have been urged to exercise vigilance even as Matiang’i reassured citizens that government is on high alert to counter any terror-related threats.
A special focus has been emphasized at entry points like airports.
Matiang’i revealed that screening systems have been changed at the airports and Standard Gauge Railway termini.
“We are not out of the woods yet, let us be careful and watchful and you may be inconvenienced but we are not in the normal space at the moment, we have raised the level of alert,” he noted.
The three jailbirds were cornered within the border of Tana River and Mwingi deep in the bush following a tip-off by members of the public.
