Five family members were on Saturday morning killed in a grisly road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
The five died after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck at Taru area, around 80 kilometers from Mombasa town.
Four other people cheated death by a whisker in the fatal road accident that happened at around 5.10 am.
Confirming the incident, Coast regional traffic commander Peter Maina said the five family members, including a husband, his wife, and their three children died on the spot.
Four other people who were critically injured in the crash are undergoing treatment at Kinango Sub-County Hospital.
The family was heading to Mombasa when their Toyota Voxy was involved in a head-on collision with a Nairobi-bound truck
Following a rise in road accidents in the Coast region, especially on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, authorities have convened a meeting with owners of public service vehicles to find a solution.
“We will be meeting with owners of public service vehicles this weekend to inform them of the new measures,” said Maina.
On Thursday, five people died in a road crash at Shangia on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
