Jubilee party has cleared 16 candidates among them football star McDonald Mariga to compete for the Jubilee ticket for the Kibra by-election.
Their clearance was confirmed by the party’s National Election Board (NEB) on Friday, August 30.
The candidates who have been cleared are Morris Kinyanjui, Walter Trenk, Ibrahim Said, Doreen Wasike, Oscar Kambona, Bukachi Chapia, Jane Githaiga and Jack Owino.
Others include Omondi Rajab, Daniel Adem, Daniel Orogo, Ramadhan Hussein, Frank Amollo, Timothy Kaimenyi and Geoffrey Mwangi.
“As by 5.30pm on Friday, we had received a list of 16 candidates. We are proceeding with interviews,” Andrew Musangi, the Jubilee NEB chairperson was quoted.
“A decision on who will be the Jubilee party ticket flag bearer will be officially announced by Monday, September 2, afternoon,” he added.
Mariga’s clearance comes days after the party’s Secretary-General Raphael Tuju denied claims that the midfielder was among the party’s candidates in the forthcoming Kibra by election.
The winner of the Jubilee party ticket will face aspirants from other political parties including Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and ANC.
