Former deputy commandant at the General Service Unit William Singoei was on Wednesday found dead in his room within Embakasi Garrison, Nairobi.
Singoei was among officials seconded the National Command Centre for Covid-19 that is based within the military facility.
The agency is a multi-agency command centre under the Ministry of Health.
It is under the command of Major-General Ayub Matiiri.
Singoei also served as a commanding officer of the elite Recce company which among others protects the President.
Officials said Singoei, an assistant Inspector General of police, was found dead in his hostel within the military facility on Wednesday morning.
Most officials attached to the team spend their nights within the facility to enable them respond to various cases.
Senior police officers visited the scene as part of the efforts to know how he died.
The cause of death was not immediately known. Police were called after his body was found in his room.
Police said a postmortem will be conducted. The body was moved to the mortuary.
