Gautam Adani Company to Pay $275 Million to Settle US Iran Sanctions Probe

Gautam Adani Company to Pay 5 Million to Settle US Iran Sanctions Probe

One of the companies owned by Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has agreed to pay $275 million to settle US investigations into alleged sanctions violations against Iran.

According to the US Treasury Department, Adani Enterprises reached an agreement with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) after authorities investigated transactions involving liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipments in 2023 and 2025.

According to US officials, the company violated 32 American sanctions laws involving Iran-related trade. The sanctions prevent companies and individuals from conducting certain business activities with Iran, particularly in the energy sector.

The Treasury Department stated that the settlement does not constitute a criminal conviction but rather resolves the company’s potential civil liability in the case.

The Adani Group, one of India’s largest conglomerates, operates in energy, ports, airports, mining, and infrastructure. In recent years, the group has grown rapidly both in India and internationally.

The case adds to the Adani Group’s increasing scrutiny in global markets. In 2023, Hindenburg Research, a US-based investment firm, accused the conglomerate of stock manipulation and accounting fraud, which the company strongly denied. The controversy deducted billions of dollars from the group’s market value at the time, though several Adani companies later recovered.

Despite the recent settlement, Adani Enterprises has not admitted wrongdoing. The company stated that it cooperated with US authorities throughout the investigations.

Analysts believe the settlement will help the company avoid a lengthy legal battle and reduce investor uncertainty, though the case may continue to attract attention from international regulators and financial markets.
