General Badi to give Nairobi a complete face-lift by December

Nairobi Metropolitan Services director general Mohammed Badi has said promised to give Kenya’s capital a complete face-lift by December.

Badi was speaking during a local television’s news when he said his team has been able to dig 93 boreholes in the last 100 days. He added that they have water bowsers to distribute water for free families in informal settlement.

“CBD is undergoing a face lift and this is why we may have some garbage as the works is ongoing for the next 3 to 6 months. By December this will be a new town,” Badi said.

He said NMS is in the process of taming the water menace that has hit the county that has been blamed on cartels.

“NMS is in the process of registering all water suppliers that are operating knowing their sources of collection and where they distribute to so we know where they operate from .” Badi said.

Nairobi consumes over 800,000 cubic metres daily but currently the city only has 525,000 cubic metres despite the long rains that have pounded the country since last year.

Insufficient supply leads to water rationing and it is mostly occasioned by people frustrating the system by closing the pipelines to go and sell.

He said construction of a public hospital will commence at the site soon at the site where a private developer was constructing high-rise apartments on.

Badi was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to take over the running of Nairobi with a promise to restore its lost glory and to deliver services for the people of Nairobi.

President Kenyatta has instructed NMS to bring sanity and dismantle the cartels that have hindered the development of the county.

NMS has been tasked to shape urban renewal housing projects in Pangani and Jevanjee whose contracts were awarded in 2018 and are yet to begin.
