A group of nine Members of Parliament, majority from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, have made incriminating allegations on the Deputy President William Ruto over his reported involvement in the Kibra by-election.
The MPs Geofrey Osotsi, Gladys Wanga, Antony Oluoch, Jared Okelo, Opiyo Wandayi, James Nyikal, James Koyoo, Caleb Khamisi and John Mbadi in a statement, on Monday, claimed the DP was looking for war in Kibra.
The MPs accused Ruto of being the reason why Kibra residents suffered during the various General Elections.
They claimed that Ruto and Mariga were never part of the group that helped victims during the hard times alleging that their involvement in the Kibra race was nothing but a red alert.
“In the 2007 elections, they were killed en masse. The pattern repeated itself in 2013 and recently in 2017 when Ruto ensured the people of Kibra were gassed and beaten on a scale never seen before in their history of protests.
Then, out of the blues, Ruto showed up with Mariga and started demanding that the people of Kibra vote for him. Then he is now dragging Raila Odinga’s name into the contest, talking of teaching Raila a lesson.
The pattern of events, the impunity by Ruto and the insults he is embarking on indicate just one thing: It is not elections Ruto wants in Kibra. Ruto is looking for chaos, violence and war,” read in Part the statement by the MPs.
The MPs claimed that the DP was dragging Raila in the race to provoke violence adding that imposing Mariga on voters was part of his malicious plan.
“Ruto wants to provoke the people of Kibra to respond to his contempt for them and for Raila and his insults so that chaos may erupt because Ruto thrives in chaos and violence,” claimed the MPs.
The MPs, however, declared that the Kibra people will not be cowed by Ruto’s intention adding “that the voters here are dignified, united and principled.”
