GSU officers deployed in Migori as tensions rise over Obado impeachment

Officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) have been deployed all over in Migori County as tensions rise following plans by ODM to have Governor Okoth Obado impeached.

Raila Odinga led party resolved to orchestrate the impeachment of Obado who has been charged with corruption and barred from accessing his office.

“Due to corruption charges leveled against Governor Okoth Obado & the decision by the court to bar him from accessing his office, the party in consultations with County MCAs has resolved to have a motion of impeachment against the governor initiated immediately & have the Dep. Governor take over,” ODM statement read.

They also accused Obado bribing the MCAs and raising funds to fuel violence in the county to scuttle the impeachment process.

ODM also promised report Migori CECs, directors of departments, contractors, chief officers, MCAs, officials and suppliers they claim are raising funds to fuel violence.

“Those CECs, directors, suppliers contractors and county assembly officials are currently holed up in Nairobi, Kisumu and Migori. As soon as we forward those names, we will expect the police to act with speed to arrest the individuals so that law and order can be maintained and justice not subverted in Nairobi,” the statement read further.

ODM’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna was later accused of leading a team of goons who assaulted Migori County Speaker Boaz Okoth in his Kisumu home.

The embattled governor is facing a Ksh73.4 million graft case and was released on Monday, August 31, 2020 after paying a  Ksh8.75 million bail.
