Haji ‘confronts’ Kinoti on live TV (video)

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji on Wednesday, November 18, pulled off a rare stunt to put to rest reports that he and DCI Boss George Kinoti were at loggerheads.

During an interview with NTV’s Salim Swaleh, the DPP Haji was asked to comment on a perceived rocky relationship with the police boss when he opted to call him on live TV to get a response.

“We can ask him himself. I have no idea what differences people say we have,” Haji stated pulling out his phone from his pocket.

He went on to dial the numbers and two rings in, the DCI boss picked the call.

“Niko hapa NTV na kila wakati naulizwa kama tumekosana, kweli tumekosana? (I am here at an interview at NTV and every time I am being asked whether we are feuding. Is it true we are feuding?” The DPP posed.

Sounding surprised by the question, Kinoti responded, “Tangu Lini? (since when) I wouldn’t mind being enlightened on the feud… I am not aware.”

Haji went on to request Kinoti for a joint TV appearance which would hopefully put to rest the lingering rumour.

Kinoti added that the two institutions were working closely in the investigation and prosecution of cases behind the scenes.

Haji further addressed matters affecting his office including the investigations in the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

He explained that the investigations into the KEMSA matter were still ongoing only that EACC had resubmitted the file to his office after which he would give appropriate directions.

The DPP assured that his office’s independence had not been interfered with since he was appointed, adding that he had never received a phone call to stop a case.

“The war against corruption has not been weaponized. My office only prosecutes cases forwarded to the office based on sufficient evidence.

“The ODPP is impartial in its prosecutions. Cases must be heard to the full trial for a determination on whether there was evidence sufficient to convict which cannot be determined through conjecture,” he stated.
