The Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Noordin Haji has stated that there is no evidence linking the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto to the Arror and Kimwarer dams cases.

Haji who spoke on Wednesday stated that the assumption that the DP is linked to the case is false because his name is not in the documents filed before the court.

“As far as I am concerned and from where I am sitting, no evidence has been brought against him,” he stated.

The DPP further warned Dr. Ruto’s rivals against dragging his office into non-issues to settle political scores especially through Arror-and Kimwarer dams cases.

“That does not mean I’m siding with anyone, I’m just being factual and saying that his name is not in the files,” he added.

Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate Mzee Raila Odinga has been announcing in his political rallies that Dr. Ruto and his allies diverted funds meant for the construction of the multi-billion shilling projects.

While campaigning in West Pokot County, Mzee Odinga alleged that the two dams would have been complete and serving thousands of locals of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties if the funds were not stolen.

“The government said Sh21 billion was stolen but the DP has said only Sh7 billion was stolen),” said Odinga.

DP Ruto had in a past interview clarified that the government lost Sh7 billion in the scandal and not Sh21 billion like the media had reported.

“You have heard that the government has lost Sh21 billion in Kimwarer and Arror dams which is a flat lie. The money in question is about Sh7 billion and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee,” Ruto said.

The scandal implicated former Treasury CS Henry Rotich and his co-accused who were are facing fresh charges after former Principal Secretary Kamau Thuge turned from a suspect to a prosecution witness.
