Handshake sycophants want senate to reject Sakaja’s resignation

A section of politicians supporting Handshake/BBI have come out in defence of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja after he resigned from a Senate committee for breaking Covid-19 regulations.

Sakaja on Monday resigned as chairman of the Senate Adhoc Committee on Covid-19 moments after recording a statement at the Kilimani Police Station.

The Nairobi lawmaker apologised to Kenyans for flouting the government’s curfew orders and announced he was stepping down from the senate committee.

A humbled Sakaja said he took the bold step to resign  from his position in the committee in order to set an example by taking responsibility responsibility for his actions.

“I take responsibility for having flouted the Covid-19 rules. I was outside my home past 9 pm. It is regrettable but all of us make mistakes,” Sakaja said.

But the restless Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala took to his twitter handle  to announce that he shall not accept Sakaja’s resignation.

“Being found in a bar past time is equivalent to forgetting to put on a mask while eating. I stand with my distinguished cousin,” Malala said.

Malala later deleted the post after realising how irrelevant it was. Kenya is leading in the number of positive covid-19 cases in East Africa and Nairobi is the epicenter.

The Director of Political Affairs at State House Machel Waikenda also expressed his defence for Sakaja via a twitter post. Senator Sakaja was arrested in the company of three others after they were found drinking outside Lady’s Lounge bar at around 1am on Saturday.
