Here’s Why Ferdinand Waititu’s Ticket Won’t Survive

The move to replace impeached Nairobi County governor Mike Sonko has attracted mediocres of all assortments, the likes of Ferdinand Waititu

Late last year, the people of Kiambu signed signatures and tabled their vote of no confidence in the County leadership under Waititu who had changed county offices to his family home.

In January, the people of President Uhuru’s county whisked away Baba Yao through the county then the Senate sealed his political casket.

However, yesterday the registrar of political parties cleared Ferdinand Waititu’s independent aspirations to take over from the loot Mike Sonko left.

Legally, if Uhuru and State House handlers won’t play political gimmicks on Chebukati led commission, indicted County Governors can not subsequently run for election to the office of County Governor or any other state or public office ever again within Kenya.

The only way Waititu is supposed to bring his functionally illiterate head in the Capital is by successfully challenging and quashing his impeachment via a court of law.

According to Article 180(2) of the Constitution, to be eligible for election as County Governor, a person must, among other qualifications, be eligible for election as a Member of the County Assembly (MCA).

Then under Art. 193(2)(g) of the Constitution, a person is disqualified from being elected a MCA if the person has been found, in accordance with ANY LAW, to have misused or abused a State office or public office, or to have contravened Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Invariably, impeached County Governors are removed from office by impeachment for among other violations, breach of Chapter Six.

Article 75(3) bars a person who is removed from office for violation of the integrity provisions of Chapter Six from holding any other State or public office.

So far, Jubilee Party will have Dennis Waweru and Agnes Kagure as their Gubernatorial and DG respectively. A ticket that has left Raila Odinga’s ODM confused.

With DP Ruto always ready to test his political muscle, word has it that Mike Sonko- a close ally of DP might rally behing the controversial Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.

Yesterday, Thirdway Alliance Kenya picked Miguna Miguna as their Candidates in absentia for the upcoming by-elections in the City.

Let’s see how far political broker and power-hungry cartels will be willing to squirm the Laws of the land.
