Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi claims ODM leader Raila Odinga has already endorsed him to run for Nairobi county governor seat. Wanyonyi is said to be reading political mischief in Sirisia MP John Waluke’s declaration he will lead a campaign trail in Bungoma popularising Wanyonyi as the most suitable leader to oust Governor Wycliffe Wangamati of Ford Kenya.

Analysts say Waluke’s move was aimed at pitting the two brothers against each other more so upon discovery, Senator Moses Wetangula has thrown his weight behind senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka to dethrone Governor Wetangula next year. Lusaka is on the ground and his rating is high. Fearing Wangamati defeat in Lusaka hands, Waluke associated with the governor is working on plan B. Sources say Waluke is shopping for a party ahead of 2022 polls after discovering UDA cannot be sold in Luhyaland and William Ruto cannot make inroads in the region. Waluke wants to use Wanyonyi to befriend Raila again and join the party.

“I have already been given a go- ahead by my party leader to contest the gubernatorial seat in Nairobi and I don’t know why Waluke is suggesting that I should return and run at home. We need to expand and not to crowd in one county,” he noted Wanyonyi added that he had not met and discussed any politics with Waluke of Jubilee party and wondered what informed him to propose his name without consultation. He was speaking at their Mukhweya village home in Kabuchai constituency during the funeral ceremony of his step mother Faustin Wetangula. Wanyonyi is the younger brother of Senator Wetangula. Lusaka and area MP Majimbo Kalasinga also addressed the mourners.

Recently, Waluke who is also the Bungoma Jubilee chairman announced he had pulled out of the race for the governor’s seat adding that he would instead support Wanyonyi because he felt he was better placed to serve the local people in the position. And commenting on the issue, Lusaka caused laughter when he claimed that even if Wanyonyi was to run he could not risk to use Waluke as the campaign manager. “If you involve that one in your campaign, you can be sure of losing from the word go. If anything, there are better people to use other than Waluke,” he said. At the same time, the newly-elected Kabuchai MP, Kalasinga, is angry and is demanding for an apology from his Sirisia counterpart, Waluke.

Moses Wetang’ula

Waluke had claimed on a vernacular radio station that Kalasinga rigged votes during the Kabuchai poll that saw him emerge the winner. The by-election was occasioned by the death of James Lusweti. Waluke who led the Ruto’s allied party UDA in campaigning for its candidate Evans Kakai, alleged that Ford Kenya whose candidate was the current MP rigged votes. Waluke also claimed that Kalasinga was also heavily funded by Ruto and is busy despising and verbally attacking him. Kalasinga was a Ford-Kenya party candidate which is led by Senator Wetang’ula. Kalasinga stated that he never received any single coin from Ruto during campaigns and it is only Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli who gave him ksh. 300,000.
