How ex-AP tortured wife to death in Kayole

Police in Kayole are holding in custody a middle-aged man accused of physically assaulting and fatally stabbing his wife at their home in Kioi on Tuesday night.

The suspect, a former administration police officer, is said to have attacked Philisilah Cherono, an assistant manager at Rafiki Microfinance Bank-Rongai branch, over reasons yet to be known. Police, however, suspect marital dispute led to the brutal aggression.

The accused, Washington Onyango, is alleged to have stabbed Cherono in different parts of her body after viciously beating her up Tuesday night.

“He locked her up in the room despite the victim bleeding profusely,” said Kayole OCPD Wilson Kosgey.

“When he realised the victim’s life was on the line, he took Cherono to hospital on Wednesday noon. Cherono was, however, pronounced dead on arrival at a Kayole hospital,” added Kosgey.

Neighbours said that Cherono was last seen in public Tuesday evening when she arrived home from work, and bought vegetables from a nearby grocery.

Kayole police boss told K24 Digital that the suspect claimed his spouse arrived home while injured, but neighbours term his allegations as false.

“She was very much okay [when she arrived home on Tuesday]. I remember her as a soft-spoken woman who minded her own business most times,” said a neighbour, who sought anonymity.

Police arrived at the couple’s home on Wednesday afternoon, and sealed off the house as a scene of crime.

A pillow case that contained blood, and other house items were taken by police for forensic examination.

Cherono and Onyango shared three children (two sons and a daughter) together aged between 2 and 7.

The suspect, who is being detained at Kayole Police Station, is said to have left his job as an AP officer in 2017.
