How Kenya Kwanza plans to improve police service

Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by Deputy President Dr. William Ruto has vowed to improve police service if he ascends to power on August 9. Ruto who spoke while concluding a three day campaign tour of Kiambu County accused the outgoing regime of using police officers to advance political interests.

The DP vowed that his administration will ensure that police officers do not meddle in politics as he described them as patriotic citizens who, if empowered, will adequately maintain law and order, safeguard peace and protect property.

Dr. Ruto was in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s turf where he was accompanied by his running mate Rigathi Gachagua, area MP Moses Kuria, Speaker Justin Muturi, Kikuyu Mp Kimani Ichung’wa and Kiharu’s Ndindi Nyoro as he reassured Kenyans of his commitment to improve police pay.

“We have agreed with our police officers that they will not again be used to advance political interests. They will be reputable men in uniform and persons with a noble job of ensuring there is peace in the country and as Kenya Kwanza, we will equip them to ensure they run a professional police service. We will accord them good terms of service, give them better insurance covers and a good pay to detach them from politics,” the DP said.

The DP’s allies led by his running mate Rigathi Gachagua also pointed accusing fingers at the ministries of Interior, Information and Communications of scheming to rig the August 9 election by forcing chiefs to collect personal data of Kenyans.

Gachagua revealed that the plan was intended to help Ruto’s rival Raila Odinga win next month’s election though he is not people’s favorite.

“Chiefs have been instructed to look for at least 30 people every day who are paid Sh1,000 in exchange for giving out their phone numbers which will receive text messages requesting them to vote for Raila. Chiefs should not be used to seek votes for Raila,” said Gachagua.

In previous rallies, Hon. Gachagua had also promised that Kenya Kwanza coalition will restore dignity in police service if they win the August presidential election.

“Since the late President Mwai Kibaki retired the salaries and allowances for police officers have not been improved. Once Dr Ruto takes over the salaries and allowances will be reviewed.” he said.

The DP’s running mate also revealed that officers with degrees will be remunerated in respect to their academic qualifications as he added that Kenya Kwanza also has plans for better terms for chiefs, and assistant county commissioners which is geared towards restoring dignity in the civil service.

President Kenyatta recently awarded his nephew Jomo Gecaga, niece Nana Gecaga and close allies with top State honours but turned a blind eye on the entire police service which boasts of distinguished ladies and gentlemen who are serving the country diligently.

Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Justin Muturi told off President Kenyatta to stop competing against Ruto but to allow the DP to fight it out fairly with Odinga.

“The government will not be on the ballot. Only Ruto and Raila will be on the ballot. We want to warn Mucheru against the Ajira government platform advertisement that intends to hire citizen photographers in every polling station. That advertisement should be left for the competing political parties and not the government,” he said.

Dr. Ruto who remains keen on clinching presidency added that only Kenya Kwanza Alliance has an elaborate plan to transform the country as he urged Kenyans to rally behind his candidature.

He also reiterated his promise to pump Sh50 billion to empower small and medium enterprises in the country as a way of creating employment and expanding tax base.

“We have a clear plan that will see us enhance activities in agriculture, housing, manufacturing, leather, textile among other sectors. We will set aside Sh200 billion to create jobs for our people,” Ruto said.
