How Kenya Kwanza plans to reduce the cost of living

Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate Dr. William Ruto yesterday rallied residents of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties to vote for him and reject Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition’s Raila Odinga.

Dr. Ruto who explained how he plans to bring down the cost of living accused Mr Odinga and Azimio sponsors of ignoring the ordinary Kenyans as the cost of living becomes unbearable.

The Deputy President also vowed to lower the cost of drugs, food and all the essential commodities if he wins the August 9 vote and succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He said that his Kenya Kwanza administration will reduce the cost of a bag of fertilizer from the current Sh7,000 to Sh2,500 as he also drummed up support for his bottom-up economic model which will strengthen small-scale businesses through affordable and accessible credit.

Dr. Ruto was touring Ukambani just a day after Mr Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua also visited region. He was accompanied by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and former Nairobi deputy governor Jonathan Mueke who is vying for Kitui gubernatorial seat on UDA ticket.

Sonko ditched President Kenyatta and Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja and joined Deputy President William Ruto’s camp over frustrations to vie for Mombasa gubernatorial seat.

He was welcomed as a hero by DP Ruto who described him as another casualty of the March 2018 handshake deal between Mr Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Yet they did not join us when we supported Sonko’s Nairobi governor bid in 2013. We shall accommodate (Wiper Party leader) Kalonzo Musyoka in the government we form together with Mr Sonko,” Ruto said in Kitui town.

Sonko told the crowds that Odinga does not mean well for the Kamba region as he also accused Ms Karua and Chief Justice Martha Koome of orchestrating the tribulations he faced with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the courts in his botched attempt to run for the Mombasa top seat.

Dr Ruto further criticized Mr Odinga for skipping last week’s presidential debate because he lacks agenda for the people but only running to protect the dynasts’ wealth and KEMSA looters.

“I wanted to challenge him to explain when his allies involved in the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) scandal would refund the stolen money and be charged. I was waiting for him to explain state capture because his sponsors have captured the country’s economy,” he said.

Kenya Kwanza flag bearer had also promised in other rallies that his government he will rid the agriculture sector of brokers and conmen who are depriving farmers of what they deserve to earn.

Dr. Ruto said the sector is a top earner and backbone of the country’s economy and must be protected to benefit all farmers.
