‘Humane’ is a cosmetic approach to oppose Mau evictions

‘Humane’ is a cosmetic approach to oppose Mau evictions

As DP William Ruto maintains a plastic silence by steering off Mau debate, the countdown to second phase of the planned evictions is fast approaching and his sycophantic foot soldiers are doing what they do best. Oscar Sudi’s are screaming at the top of their voices for the exercise to be humane and the evictees be compensated.

Illegal settlements in the country’s largest water tower have led to serious destruction with damaging effects. There have been changes in rainfall patterns; supply of water to the famous Serengeti Park across the border has reduced. Research also finds that continued destruction of Mau Forest will see a shortage of 40% in supply to meet the demands by 2030.

The government is rolling out an eviction exercise to save the 17,000 acres that have been destroyed. Environment CS Keriako Tobiko has over the time emphasized that hundreds of families illegally settling in Mau will be uprooted without compensation. Over 15 schools will be closed. Previous evictions have been met by opposition from Rift Valley politicians.

Now they are calling on the authorities to be humane when rolling the exercise, not to disrupt school going children, to first point new place of settlement for the families that will be affected. That is not what they mean, Sudis in their cocoons mean a complete opposition to the exercise from the days when Raila Odinga championed previous evictions. It led to his fall out with DP Ruto.  The deputy president and his sycophants have a history of supporting Mau destruction, to please illegal settlers and win their votes.

Even the public does not to be educated on Mau destructions, the effects have been felt by man and animals. When droughts visit, families go without food and water, livestock is lost to drought and water rationing is imposed to city duelers, this shouting team goes mum. Hon Aden Duale who reasons that his camels don’t need water from Mau to survive is off the talk when brains gather to delve on the issue.

It’s backward for a national leader to oppose or play politics with Mau issue in 2019. Our man our community syndrome is getting out of hands and affecting more lives than it supports. Infatuation with the 2022 politics is again making it worse. The guys calling on the government to be humane have no moral authority to make such calls. Government knows what do.
