I bought Linturi’s parents property worth 150 million – Maryanne Kitany

Meru senator Mithika Linturi’s ex-wife Marianne Kitany has told court she bought him and his parent’s properties worth KSh 150 million.

This, she maintained was out love having been assured by Linturi that she was the only woman in his life during their short-lived marriage.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Peter Ngare on Wednesday, August 21, Kitany said she went out of her way to do unusual things for the sake of her marriage to the seasoned politician.

He told me I was the only one and that he had divorced all other women, which made me happy. I have never chewed miraa in my life but for the sake of marriage and out of love I chewed miraa for the first time as part of the Meru marriage rituals,” said Kitany.

Kitany went on to disclose Linturi’s parents did not attend their wedding ceremony in line with Meru traditions and another traditional ceremony was held in Nandi county.

“My mother engaged with villagers to prepare the marriage function that was held in Nandi on April 16, 2016,” said recounted.

The groom and his people arrived around noon on the eventful day.

According to her, Linturi was among the 19 people who attended the ceremony alongside relatives from Kericho and Meru elders.

Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, she wants the court to verify authenticity of marriage certificate which indicated Linturi was legally married to Mercy Kaimenyi.

“I had never seen any marriage certificate between Linturi and any other woman and this marriage certificate in court has been brought out of malice,” said Kitany.

The certificate tabled in court by Linturi is dated April 8, 2000 when he was 31 years and Mercy was 24 years by then.

She was served the document on January 2019 when she filed the divorce case.

Hearing will continue in August 28, 2019.
