I wanted to save jobless youth – State House fence jumper, Brian Bera says

Brian Bera, the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student who was shot and injured as he attempted to climb over the State House fence, on Wednesday told a Nairobi court that he wanted to save the many jobless youth in Kenya.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, Bera also urged the court to bar his father from interfering with his life saying he is an adult.

He also insisted that he did not want to be taken to a mental facility since does not want to brush shoulders with the police and doctors because he “can kill them.”

The court however directed that he still be held at a mental facility under his father’s care, upon which he pleaded to be forgiven and released.

“The accused still requires medical attention and therefore he is still not fit to take a plea,” said Magistrate Andayi.

The 25-year-old will now be under medication for a period of two months before appearing in court on October 9, 2019.

Before his June attempt to gain entry into State House, Bera had posted on his Facebook page about his plans saying “I am only going to slay President Uhuru Kenyatta and his thief partners because they stole the land God gave to my ancestors…”
