ICU equipment worth millions ‘disappears’ from Embu Level Five Hospital

ICU equipment worth millions ‘disappears’ from Embu Level Five Hospital

It has now emerged that the only two Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities at the Embu Level Five Hospital have been closed following the disappearance of equipment.

Activist Wawira Njue on Tuesday revealed that top officials at the health facility have been keeping the matter under wraps.

He demanded an explanation from Mr. Sammy Muturi, chairman of the Health Select Committee at the Embu County Assembly.

In response, Muturi confirmed that the machines were indeed stolen a few weeks ago and several people have since been arrested.

MCA Muturi Mwombo (Ruguru/Ngandori ward) corroborated the statement warning that any other person found culpable will be prosecuted.

They faulted the suspects for aggravating the suffering of Embu residents who are in dire need of ICU services.

The two leaders however defended themselves over accusations of being silent on the matter arguing that due process is being followed as investigations continue.
