Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended elections in four elective positions across the country due to a mix up in the printing of the ballot papers.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has announced that counties including Mombasa and Kakamega will have their elections suspended until further notice.
Chebukati said that the decision was arrived at after the commission officials found that details and images of the candidates were wrong.
Other areas affected with the mix up include Pokot South and Kacheliba constituencies where parliamentary elections have been lifted.
“Ballot papers for Mombasa governor position have wrong gubernatorial candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them.
“Ballot papers for Kacheliba constituency have wrong member of National Assembly candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them,” Chebukati said.
The IEBC Chairman who spoke at the Bomas of Kenya ahead of August 9 [tomorrow] elections also announced that ballot papers for five constituencies were wrongly sent to Chuka Ingambeng’ombe in Tharaka Nithi county.
“As a result, elections for the respective positions have been suspended to a later date that shall be announced to a later date through a gazette notice,” Chebukati said.
IEBC which has been under pressure from the political class in the build up to tomorrow’s elections also wrongly routed county assembly ballot papers for Mua ward in Machakos county to Kuresoi constituency in Nakuru county.
