In Pictures: Millions In losses After Fire Razes Multiple Garages In Dagoretti

Owners of five motor vehicle garages in Dagoretti Corner, Nairobi County are counting millions in losses after a fire gutted their business in the night to Wednesday.

Residents that live near Shalom guest house off Ngong road woke up to nothing to salvage as the inferno had razed down dozens of parked vehicles.

This is the aftermath of the fire that broke out at the garages and burnt property estimated to be worth millions to the ground.

The county disaster response team has been accused of slow response.

County governments say they have improved their capacity to respond to the fire incidents, however, noting that there were challenges in terms of access when the infernos occur in informal settlements.

A 2010 research paper by the University of Nairobi observed that for better response, the city’s fires services should be decentralized from within the city center and have fire stations at all sub-county headquarters in the city.
